Paul Pogba has come up against reports that he was considering leaving the French team after the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron last Friday, which contain a feeling of “Islamophobia,” according to members of the international community.
Macron assured that “unity and firmness are the only answers to the monstrosity of Islamic terrorism” after the assassination of 47-year-old teacher Samuel Paty, beheaded while returning to his home in a town 40 kilometers from Paris.
The words of the French president have not pleased the Islamic community at all. Pogba, a believer in Islam, is upset with the statements and as a rebound the English press has warned that he could choose not to go with the national team, something that the player himself has denied.
The Manchester United midfielder has cataloged the information as “fake news” on his social networks, adding that they are “unacceptable.”
According to the British press, Pogba received Macron's words as an insult to him and to French Muslims, especially since Islam is the second religion in France after Christianity.
In 2019, Pogba revealed why he converted to Islam, insisting that doing so has made him a better person. “It made me change, to realize the things in life. I guess maybe it makes me feel calmer inside. It was a good change in my life because I was not born Muslim, even though my mother was. I just grew up like that, respect for everyone, ”he said in The Times.
