Pogacar imposes its law in the Tirreno-Adriatico and Landa gets on the podium with one stage to go

MADRID, 12 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) gave a practically definitive blow to win the Tirreno-Adriatico 2022 after winning this Saturday in the sixth and penultimate stage of the Italian round after a masterful attack in the final stretch of the day, disputed over 215 kilometers between the towns of Apecchio and Carpegna.

Pogacar, who was already in possession of the ‘azzurra’ jersey, did not hesitate to impose his law with 16 kilometers to go. The Slovenian runner left alone and only some members of the platoon were able to respond to the brutal attack, but with no options for ‘melee’ that prevented the leader’s superiority.

Among those chosen to answer the Slovenian were the Spaniards Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious) and Enric Mas (Movistar Team), who were agitators together with the Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma). Later Richie Porte (Ineos Grenadiers) also jumped to join the group of pursuers. Of course, aware that Pogacar was very far away.

The double and current champion of the Tour de France put the direct and was unattainable for the group that tried to hunt him down. To make matters worse, the sextet lost Enric Mas due to a fall with seven kilometers to go.

In this way, Pogacar won with a time of 5:28:57, 1 minute and 3 seconds ahead of Vingegaard and Landa, who are 1:52 and 2:33, respectively, in the general classification. The Spaniard also reaches the podium after his good day this Saturday.

This Sunday the seventh and last stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico will be played with everything in the face for Pogacar to complete its final victory and repeat the triumph of last year. The second of his record. For Landa, if nothing changes in the last stage, the third place from last year would also be repeated. The final day begins and ends in San Benedetto del Tronto and will have a distance of 159 kilometers.
