Nicolas Anelka
Nicolas Anelka was Lorenzo Sanz’s last star signing, who hired him in the summer of 1999 for 5,500 million pesetas (about 36 million euros at current exchange rates). But his performance was not the most appropriate: he was only there for one season (1999-2000), but he left his mark in the Champions League, a tournament that he won with the Whites, by scoring against Bayern in the two semifinal games. With Madrid he participated in 32 games, scoring seven goals. He arrived at Chelsea in 2008, and would stay until 2011: with the ‘blues’ he participated in 183 games, scoring 59 goals. He was able to lead London to glory in the Champions League final in 2008, but his shot, in the penalty shootout, was stopped by Van der Sar, Manchester United goalkeeper.
