Pilar Alegría meets with the Spanish Paralympic Team at the Montmartre House Museum

MADRID, 28 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish delegation attending the Paralympic Games, which begin this Wednesday in Paris, met on Tuesday evening at the Casa Museo de Montmartre in the French capital, at a reception organised by the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) and attended by the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría.

According to the ministry in a press release on Wednesday, Alegría highlighted the strength of the delegation at the event and emphasized the Government’s commitment to equality and inclusion, a measure that has already been proven with the equalization of medal prizes between Olympic and Paralympic athletes, which will materialize thanks to an increase of 1,025,000 euros compared to 2021 (54 percent more) in the Government subsidy to the CPE.

“The Government has worked hard to give our elite athletes all the support they need during this cycle. Equal opportunities, integration and the promotion of physical activity for people with disabilities, outside of these Games, are objectives of our Sports Law and a commitment that we will continue to work on,” said the minister.

Alegría also referred to the presence of 54 athletes among the 150 participants, eleven of them as support staff, and who make up 38 percent of the delegation. “This reflects significant progress in the inclusion and visibility of women with disabilities in sport. There are still obstacles to overcome, but I think we are on the right path,” said the Sports Minister.
