Philippe Diallo, president of the FFF, offers a major reform of French professional football
Philippe Diallo presents it as a project of « rupture ». The qualifier is not too strong, as one of the proposals of his plan resembles a small revolution in the organization of French professional football.
A little more than two months after the launch of the Estates General, in early March, aimed at remedying the serious financial and governance crisis crossed by this sport, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF) presented its reform tracks on Monday, May 12, with a flagship measure: the scheduled disappearance of the Professional Football League (LFP), now chaired by Vincent Labrune. It’s necessary “Going to a system where the LFP would give way to a commercial company, in which the clubs would be shareholders”said Diallo, at a press conference, alongside the Minister of Sports, Marie Barsacq. According to him, “Tomorrow, there will be no more president elected to the league”.
In the new architecture which he calls of his wishes, a single entity would be below the FFF: a “Club society” To manage the operation and marketing of the professional championships. This would take up the powers of the current LFP, notably responsible for the organization of the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 championships, and its commercial subsidiary, LFP Media, led by Nicolas de Tavernost, whose mission is to find recipes.
