Pepe Mel and the sanction against Melero: “We do not have freedom of expression”

MADRID, 28 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The coach of UD Almería, Pepe Mel, was critical of the sanction of his player Gonzalo Melero, who will miss four games for his statements after the duel against Real Madrid two months ago, as it shows that they do not have “freedom of expression ” in his work.

Mel, who arrived on the Almería bench two weeks ago, lamented the possibility of, without having news of the precautionary measure, losing four games to some of his best players. “It is curious when we see in the Congress of Deputies that they start to give birth, that we do not have that freedom of expression,” he said.

“That said, Melero was naive. But that’s how it is, I can’t say anything because my work could be harmed, therefore, freedom of expression, zero,” he added at the press conference prior to the duel against Osasuna on Saturday.

Melero received the sanction this week from the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), after his criticism of the refereeing of the duel against Real Madrid, in which he spoke of the “robbery” against Almería at the Santiago Bernabéu.
