This Monday, February 5, Penelope Cruz has attended the presentation of Ferrari, which took place in Madrid. The Oscar-winning actress, who turns half a century on April 28, has spoken about her role (for which she has received a nomination for the 2024 SAG Awards) and other issues that underpin current events.
Among them, violence against women: “They put a microphone near us, but not the others, that's why I don't want to talk only about cinema”the one from Alcobendas has pointed out about the situation of women in the film industry and the accusations of three women against film director Carlos Vermut.
And he explained: “The most serious problem for me is that many times the legal system fails. We cannot only talk about what happens in our industries. Let's talk about what happens to a housewife, to a journalist, to a nurse. It has always been my answer,” he said on Cadena Ser.
The actress, after addressing sexist violence in On the margins (a film that she produces and stars in), has a documentary in her hands in which she also deals with this problem: “I am developing a film about these issues because they really matter to me and it makes me very angry and sad that so many women continue to die in our country and in so many places in the world,” he highlighted.
About Ferrari
In this film, set in 1957, Pe plays Laura Ferrarithe wife of the powerful automobile magnate, played by Adam Driver): “There was a need to give a voice to her who at the same time represents so many women in the shadows or in very similar situations. And also today.” In this sense, she added: “I think it is recognized as something of the time, but something that is also here. We all know women who are experiencing situations similar to what Laura experiences in the film.”
About the filming and its director, Michael Mannhas stated: “Michael Mann scared me a lot (…) I knew him, because we had seen each other in a couple of places over the years and I found him charming, but he scared me, because I had heard that he was hard on filming. Now I tell him that I love him a lot, but that he still scares me. It's quite hard, on top of that you want to live up to it and give him what he asks for and make him leave happy with the scene.”
