MADRID, 30 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Former Brazilian soccer player Edson Arantes do Nascimento, ‘Pelé’, will be buried on January 3 at the Ecumenical Necropolis Memorial in Sao Paulo, after a whole day of wakefulness on the pitch of the Santos stadium.
‘O Rei’ will have a massive farewell in Vila Belmiro, open to the public, which will begin on the 2nd at 10:00, with the transfer of his body from the Albert Einstein Hospital at dawn, where he died on Thursday at the age of 82, after more than a year fighting colon cancer.
Santos, the club where the three-time world champion played from 1956 to 1974, gave the details of the wake on its official website. At 10 in the morning on the 3rd, the coffin with Pelé’s body will begin a procession passing through the street of his mother, Celeste, to the symbolic cemetery.
Pelé chose and revealed a long time ago the place where he wanted to be buried, a vertical cemetery that is considered the highest in the world and from which there is a perfect view of Vila Belmiro. Since last week the preparations for the funeral and the farewell of ‘O Rei’ with the club of his life have been seen.
