MADRID, 18 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former Brazilian soccer player Edson Arantes do Nascimento, ‘Pelé’, also wanted to pay tribute to the figure of Spaniard Francisco Gento, who died on Tuesday and whom he considers “another soccer genius and the greatest European champion to date”.

“Paco Gento is another football genius saying goodbye to us. The greatest European champion to date. He was still a child when we faced him and other Real Madrid legends at the Santiago Bernabéu on a European tour. Memories of great nostalgia and passion for football, which are even more alive today. I leave here my feeling of affection for all my friends and family”, wrote the legendary ’10’ on his ‘Instagram’ profile.

In addition, the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, recalled the figure of the Spaniard. “I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of Paco Gento at the age of 88. Paco was one of the best players of his generation and leaves a lifetime of memories for all football fans, but especially those of the Spanish team and the Real Madrid,” he stressed on the agency’s website.

“We wish to convey our deepest condolences and best wishes to Paco’s family and friends, to Real Madrid, to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and to those who have memories of this great player,” added the manager.
