Pedro Martinez is cited in Chile’s semifinals with Baez, Munar’s executioner

MADRID, 1 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Pedro Martínez won (6-3, 6-7(5), 6-2) this Friday against the Frenchman Arthur Fils to reach the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Santiago de Chile, where he will face the Argentine Sebastián Báez , who eliminated Jaume Munar, the other Spaniard left in the fray, by a double 6-4.

Martínez, champion of the Chilean tournament in 2022, remains in contention in search of what would be the second title of his career. The Valencian, who reached his third ATP semi-final – he also played them in Kitzbühel in 2021 -, came back in the first set but could not make a quick decision. Fils, third seed, forced a tiebreaker in which the Spaniard was clearly superior (6-2).

For a place in a new final in Santiago, Martínez will face a tennis player on a streak. Munar met the best tennis player of the moment on the South American tour on land. Báez, champion last week in Rio de Janeiro, reached the semifinal round for the third time in his last four tournaments with a solid performance.

The Spaniard seemed to be reaching good form as well, but the second favorite in Santiago had answers for everything. The 23-year-old Argentine scored the first round with an early break. Munar was the one who broke at the beginning of the second set, but Báez added the last five games in a row.
