Paulo Futre will be the image of Atlético’s membership card for next season

MADRID, 18 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former Atlético de Madrid footballer Paulo Futre will be the image of the Madrid club’s membership card for the 2022-2023 season, in a tribute to the red-and-white legend, who acknowledges being “very excited” by this “unique detail”, according to the set of the capital in a statement this Wednesday.

With this gesture, Atlético intends to continue “remembering the legends who have worn the rojiblanca and who became fundamental pillars in achieving great milestones for the club”. Thus, Futre follows in the footsteps of José Eulogio Gárate, former Atleti striker; Luis Aragonés, former Atletico player and coach; and Adelardo Rodríguez, player with the most appearances in the club’s history (553).

Futre arrived at Atlético in 1987, completing seven seasons as a rojiblanco, divided into two stages between 1987-93 and 1997-98. He played 215 games for which he wears a commemorative plaque at the Wanda Metropolitano. He won two Copa del Rey (1990-1991 and 1991-1992) with Atleti.

“I have no words, I’m excited, it’s one more tribute that this club pays me. My great tributes have been paid to me by Atlético de Madrid. There is nothing that makes me happier in the world, thanks for this unique detail”, he applauded Futre in statements to the club’s media collected by Europa Press.
