Palestinian footballer Mohammed Barakat dies at 39 in Israeli airstrike

Palestinian footballer Mohammed Barakat, considered one of the best forwards in his country, has died in an airstrike by the Israeli army that hit his home in Khan Yunis, in Gaza, the Arab news channel Al Jazeera has confirmed.

Barakat, 39 years old and who played for Ahly in Gaza, was the first Gazan footballer to reach one hundred goals, and scored 114 goals in his entire career.

He also played for several clubs in the West Bank and Jordan, including Jordanian side Al-Wehdat.
