ANTWERP (BELGIUM), 21 Mar. (dpa / EP) –
The former Dutch soccer player Marc Overmars was presented this Monday as the new sports director of Belgian Antwerp, a club in which he hopes to open “a new chapter” with which he can close his controversial departure from Ajax after behaving in an “unacceptable” way.
The one who was a winger of the ‘ajacied’ team, FC Barcelona or Arsenal will take over the sports management of the current third-placed team in the Jupiler League six weeks after being fired from the four-time European champion for sending inappropriate and sexist messages to club employees.
“I want to leave the pages of Ajax behind and start a new chapter here. My departure from Ajax was very unhappy, I have to get over it and move on, I will do it here,” Overmars wished in his introduction to his new position.
On his abrupt departure from the Eredivisie champion for some messages that the club considered “crossed the line”, the former player was clear. “Especially for someone in my position, this behavior is unacceptable, it will not happen again,” he said.
