Óscar Gil: “Playing against Real Madrid is an extra motivation for the victory that we all want”

MADRID, 23 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Espanyol’s right-back Óscar Gil assures that “playing against Real Madrid is an extra motivation” that all the players have and that, being at home, it is the ideal setting to achieve “the victory” that inaugurates the ‘perico’ locker in the competition.

“Playing against a team like Real Madrid is an extra motivation that in the end we all have for Sunday to arrive, which on top of that we play in our stadium, to be able to compete with the fans and give them the victory that we all want”, said Óscar Gil this Tuesday to the club’s media.

For the defender, “there is no better way to get out of the defeat the other day than to play at home again.” “It’s in our stadium, with our people and we can show them that we can, that last year we also gave them the victory against Real Madrid and it’s a symptom of being able to say that we’re here,” he said.

The player from Elche also spoke about his start to the campaign in which he played every minute with Diego Martínez. “I’m taking advantage of the opportunity that the coach is giving me to be able to play and trying to restore his confidence. I feel good and want to continue working”, he commented.

Espanyol have not started the competition well, with their baggage in the first two matchdays being a draw in added time against Celta and a defeat at home against Rayo Vallecano, something that does not worry Gil.

“After the ‘stick’ that we got the ‘weekend’, I think that the dressing room is well, united, strong and convinced, which is the important thing and with a view to Sunday’s game, that we have a quite complicated rival, but we go with illusion”, warned the Olympic runner-up.

Óscar Gil reported that “the first few minutes were incredible” against Rayo. “I would even keep the entire first half, which practically had no chances until the free-kick goal and unfortunately another game was seen. I think that if we continue insisting, we had two or three goals, although we did not have fluidity in the last third of the rival camp,” he stressed.

However, he believes that the key is “to follow the line”, although trying to “change some things and improve some aspects”, but always with “full confidence in the team and the staff to get the victory on Sunday”. “I’m left with the fact that the team is going, that it was seen in Vigo, that the team continues to insist until the end,” he added.
