There is a lot of talk these days about the great reinvention of Marcos Llorente as a striker at Atlético de Madrid and it is no wonder. It reminds me of my personal story and the importance of the coach finding the best position for a player. I did all my training at Sporting de Portugal as a left winger. In that position I played until 19-20 years old, when Artur Jorge, the coach of Port who won the Champions League, decided to try me on the right side and second, with freedom of movement, and was the position where I shone the most and marked my career.
The coach gave the master touch with me, just like the great Cholo is doing with Marcos and other reinventions like Juanfran or Koke, which went from being a pure 6 to an interior. The opposite also happens, cracks that stop shining when they play in the position that is not theirs, as I think it happens to a certain ex-red and white star who was a substitute the other day in Seville.
Mind you, if you allow me to joke: there will never be a greater reinvention than the great Jorge Campos, mythical goalkeeper of the Mexican national team who was also a good striker, and some games came to play the first half as a goalkeeper and the second as a scorer. With the trouble that Barça has in the lead and all that remains is to prove Ter Stegen killer from the area … and I wouldn't be surprised if he did it right!
