Official: Trippier leaves Atlético and signs for Newcastle

Atlético officially announced the transfer of 31-year-old Kieran Trippier to Newcastle. The right-back of the rojiblanca team is leaving after two and a half seasons in which he has offered a good performance and in which he has left a good memory among the rojiblanca fans. Trippier leaves Atlético due to personal problems and to be close to his wife and children, who are in England. Atlético wanted to help the footballer at a difficult time for him. Signature for the next two and a half seasons.

Trippier has played 86 games with the rojiblanco team and has distributed eleven assists. He came to replace Juanfran on the right side and had a remarkable performance. His partnership with Marcos Llorente, who played ahead of the Englishman, gave Simeone many joys.

Trippier ended contract in 2023, but he leaves in this winter market, which forces Atlético to look for a replacement for him. Berta has been combing the market for a couple of weeks now, looking for a right back who can cover Trippier’s loss. The transfer has been made for just under 15 million. Simeone now has one more problem when it comes to making the team: Vrsaljko remains the only right-back, although Marcos Llorente has already played more than one game in this position.

Newcastle take over the right-back and it is the club that has bet heavily on Trippier in recent weeks. In summer it was Manchester United who wanted to take him away, but Atlético closed the doors to any departure of their footballer. Now he has not been able to do it and Trippier has already made history in the Madrid club.

“I am delighted to join this fantastic club. I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I realized Newcastle’s interest and will have worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew that was where I wanted to go. I am aware that we have a lot of work ahead of us, but I know well the demands of the Premier League and I know how incredible this club is with very talented players. I can’t wait to start and I’m excited to step into St. James Park as a Newcastle player, “Trippier told his new club’s website.
