Official: Javi López leaves Espanyol

Espanyol announced this Friday at the last minute that Javi López leaves the blue and white club, the club of his life.

Espanyol and the captain have reached an agreement to terminate the remaining contract year (until 2021), curiously a renewal that took place a few months ago (after confinement) because Osuna's was one of the players who finished his contract this past June. It was renewed very recently, but in the end it leaves and does not enter the new project of Vicente Moreno in second. Strange decision.

After 13 years in the entity, Javi López puts an end to his time as a Blue and White player after becoming one of the most important footballers of the last decade and one of the undisputed references of the dressing room and the club.

In the summer of 2007, at just 21 years old, Javi López moved to Barcelona from Osuna (Seville) looking for an opportunity. He had passed through the Betis quarry and that 2007 began the adventure of his life at Espanyol. Thirteen years later, the captain terminates his contract after becoming the eighth player with the most matches in the First Division in the history of the centenary club perico.

Javi López has played 283 official matches with the blue and white (252 in LaLiga, 23 in the Copa del Rey and 8 in the Europa League) and has scored three goals.

The next Monday one of the last historical will say goodbye of the entity, a decision that as with Victor Sanchez, is included within the policy of reshaping the staff and adapting the cards for the new career in the Second Division.
