Neymar, positive for coronavirus

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) confirmed this Wednesday that three of its players have tested positive for coronavirus (without revealing his identity) and everything indicates that they will miss the debut of Thomas Tuchel's team in Ligue 1 2020-21, scheduled for September 10 at the home of Lens. According to the newspaper L’Équipe and other sources, the three affected are Neymar, Ángel di María and Leandro Paredes.

Tamto Neymar as Di María and Paredes spent their holidays in Ibiza and are in quarantine. The French newspaper itself had stated on Tuesday that, along with Di María and Paredes, the third affected is Mauro Icardi, who like Ander Herrera and other members of the staff was on that island. But this Wednesday L’Équipe maintains that it is Neymar.

The dispute of the aforementioned game against Lens on that date has not yet been questioned. Reigning French champions PSG are the current runners-up in Europe after losing the final on 23 August against Bayern in Da Luz.

The PSG said this Wednesday in its statement that, after confirming the positives, the protocol ordered by the health authorities is followed. The rest of the squad and the coaching staff will undergo further tests in the coming days.

Several Ligue 1 clubs have reported Covid-19 cases within their squad in recent weeks, in particular Lyon, Marseille, Rennes, Nantes or Montpellier. The cases discovered in Marseille led to the postponement of what was to be the opening match of the championship, against Saint-Étienne.
