Football finally returned to Europe and did so with an RB Leipzig-Freiburg. A duel that never before was so close to monopolizing as many foci as it did on this May 16, 2020, a date that will remain in the memory of football fans as the day when they stopped going hungry. And it is that the menu, very German, offered a very good game that ended in a draw, without a winner, and with goals from Gulde and Poulsen
The players, happy to return to their ecosystem, dedicated themselves to doing what they know best from the beginning: playing soccer, and they returned the spectator, at least for a moment, to the life of the weekends of before, with soccer at coffee time.
With no people in the stands, with the screams exposed but with the essence intact, both teams jumped onto the field with the greased machinery. They erased the uncertainty of the physical aspect with a stroke and presented a more than worthy battle after two months of truce.
Especially the RB Leipzig, which from the first moment showed its electricity of movements through rapid transitions and arrivals in the area. However, despite the fact that it was Nagelsmann's team who most eagerly sought the goal, Freiburg was the first to find it. In this regard, the merits in football are still worth little if you do not convert them into a goal. An isolated move, a set piece, and a shot by Gülde almost inadvertently, brought the visitors forward half an hour into the game. The celebration, with a clash of the elbows, was more striking – not more valuable – than the goal itself.
From then on, RB Leipzig continued to row to reach Schwolow's goal, which was very well escorted by his defense and barely registered great danger. Werner, Kampl and Angeliño on the left side added plays for the statistic but without finalizing. Freiburg, insisting on its pragmatism, was about to make it 0-2 with a volley from Günter and put the game in their favor before reaching the break.
Same script in the second part with a prize
After the break, Nagelsmann sought to move his board, returning the team to a defense of four. He opened the game more to the bands and continued with his battery of arrivals to the area, bottling the defense of Freiburg through an evident monologue. Neither Kampl nor Lookman, who entered the second half, could knock down the visiting wall with more and more traffic in the center lane.
Poulsen, the captain, was able to beat him, who rose above all in 76 'to make a great center of Kampl good at the heart of the area. In this way, Leipzig won the goal prize, which was so sought after in the second half. It was also a gasoline “kick” with which to revive the engine to seek victory, but ended up in limbo.
A draw in this return to competition that leaves both teams satisfied with the image shown but wanting something more for RB Leipzig, which sees the title of champion more and more far.
