Natxo González: “Kevin is much better now than when I arrived”

More peace of mind after beating Amorebieta? “We come from a victory and something negative always comes out. We are going to focus on the match as always against a difficult rival, who has been in the playoffs all year. It is an example of stability, of consolidation, with a coach who has been there for a long time. That is what we are going to find, maximum difficulty against an important rival”.

Clearer mind? “It doesn’t have to be any different. Emotionally we will see the result, but theoretically it has to free you from that backpack of frustration. I hope this takes us on an emotional level, but that we don’t release too much. We have not done anything. It was important to break that dynamic, but we have to continue and think about what we have to do to win again. The victory has been good for the player and it should allow us to continue trusting in what we are doing and that individually we let go”.

More relieved? “Yes, because I am a person and it was a joy to get three points because I also work every day to win and my position normally depends on that. It’s a relief, it’s true. I don’t know if the experience leads you to be emotionally more balanced in the good and bad times.”

Ponferradina. “Maximum difficulty for the rival, I think it is a team that dominates the most records. You can push or you can wait in low block, but we have to be prepared for any scenario. He dominates many facets and that is why he has been among the best since the beginning of the season”.

Peybernes. “For tomorrow it will not be, for the next we will see. For tomorrow it will not be, from there we will see its evolution”.

Have you decided whether you will play with two or three central defenders? “I have it clear but I am not going to make it public. Regardless of the structure, what is important is that the more alternatives we can have, the better we are. We have to see if we are able to adapt to different structures but with the same idea. We will see depending on our moment and the rival. Pey is not here, but we have Isma Casas or Andrés Caro”.

Message for the fans. “I dare not ask people for anything. Of course I would like the field to be full and for them to be with the team because they know we need them, but I can’t ask them for anything. We work to give them and to feed them so that they are content and happy. My wish is that they come to help us, I think the victory the other day strengthens us a lot. It is an important game to consolidate what we are doing. I can’t ask for more than what they are doing, they are always there. They give us a lot.”

How is Kevin? “I personally think Kevin is much better now than when I arrived. He is better right now. What will he be like if he hasn’t played? He is a prepared player and we try to help him understand the game better and he can do more things. From there is the tranquility that he has to have to learn. It’s not easy because they are young guys who appear and are a boom and now they can be seen… The difference between the best and others is to keep learning. He will once again have minutes like Antoñín or Vadillo, there are times when one appears and the others have to help. The team’s goals are better than the competition. Kevin has to work to get back minutes and show that he’s okay”.

Defense and attack. “Now we are generating much more than a month ago. In the second part of the Real game we made a qualitative leap at an important offensive level. When you’re in this situation, everything penalizes you, but the defensive level of the team is still good. While we are in this dynamic I always tell them that you have to score two goals to win because one way or another you are going to fit in. The other days we had to. The defensive level is being quite stable and the offensive level is growing, we are on the way. The team is consolidating the idea more and more, we still have a long way to go but we are on the right track”

Balance of his six games. “I have come here to work until the end of the season and it is the only thing that I focus on. If I get more points I will be happier and I will be better. I am very happy to be here, in an important club and with so much responsibility. Excited and all positive. From there, if you win, it’s milk. I am happy because within my objectives I am seeing the evolution in the game and the results will take more or less, but they will come. That’s what gives me peace of mind.”
