Nani Roma abandons the Dakar due to a mechanical problem

MADRID, 14 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Nani Roma (Ford) abandoned the Dakar Rally this Sunday after suffering a breakdown in his car in the seventh stage of the test, a 483-kilometre special between Riyadh and Al Duwadimi, and just when he was fighting to enter the 'Top 10' of the general four-wheeled category.

The Catalan, winner of the Dakar on motorcycles in 2004 and in cars in 2014, suffered a mechanical problem at kilometer 24 of the special that prevented him from resuming the competition. Thus, along with his co-pilot Alex Haro, he was forced to withdraw from the toughest raid in the world.

Before the start of the stage, Roma was in 15th position, just under an hour behind his compatriot Carlos Sainz (Audi), leader of the car category. After a year of absence, he returned to the Dakar after overcoming cancer that was diagnosed in the spring of 2022 to begin his 27th participation at the wheel of a Ford and supported by M-Sport.
