Nacho Fernández says goodbye to Atlético B. The Asturian coach has said goodbye to his players during today's training after the defeat against Socuéllamos and he has decided to step aside in the face of the bad results that accompanied the team in the fight for not releasing two categories.
The 0-1 against Socuéllamos opened the new phase in the fight for permanence in the RFEF Second Division. Atleti B was about to maintain the category on the last day of the season in Second Division B, where a victory against the Navalcarnero granted salvation, but after getting ahead on the scoreboard he suffered the equalizer and now fights not to lower another division.
Atlético B has lost a lot of points this season in the last moments of the matches, where the team has paid for its youth and difficulties to score a goal and sentence the matches despite having competed well in the game on many occasions. Nacho Fernández says goodbye after leading the team in the last two seasons, with two opposite faces. He came to the rojiblanco bench in the summer of 2019 and in his first season he led the team to fight for promotion to the Second Division after finish in third place in a League that he had led for many days. Sabadell won the penalty shoot-out in the first game of the promotion playoff and left the rojiblanco team without the feat.
But Atleti B has not been able to make up this course after leaving its main strongholds. The Riquelme, Manu Sánchez, Óscar Clemente, Cedric, Carlos Isaac, Solano, Poveda and company left during the summer spent looking for opportunities in a higher category and in winter Borja Garcés, Sanabria and Germán Valera said goodbye, loaned to Second Division clubs.
Before heading to Atleti B, Nacho Fernández served as José Bordalás' second coach. After four years in Alcorcón (between 2011 and 2015), the Asturian began his understanding with Bordalás in Alavés, where he was his second coach on the ascent, although the babazorro club decided to change coach despite success. For that reason, the Asturian left as Sports Director of Burgos, where he also had to work as an interim technician after the dismissal of Patxi Salinas. Finally, in the 2018-19 season, He returned to form a tandem with Bordalás in Getafe before joining the mattress project.
Nacho Fernández has been giving opportunities to the youngest players, rising from the youth and giving a leading role to the Mario Soriano, Giuliano Simeone or Javi Serrano, they have responded well. But the team has lacked offensive resources. On Wednesday, the rojiblanco team will return to work to prepare for next Sunday's match against Villarrubia waiting to meet the new technician who will direct the staff from here to the end of the course.
