Munar and Carballés, face and cross in the Santiago tournament

The Spaniard eliminated top seed Musetti to reach the quarterfinals

MADRID, 1 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Jaume Munar defeated (6-4, 6-4) the Italian Lorenzo Musetti this Wednesday to reach the quarterfinal round of the ATP 250 tournament in Santiago de Chile, while the also Spanish Roberto Carballés yielded (7-6 (6), 6-2) against the German Yannick Hanfmann.

Munar, who started off in a discreet start to 2023 with only one game won until Chile, left his best performance of the year to forcefully eliminate a Musetti who for the first time in his career was the first seed in a tournament.

The Spaniard began his second match on Chilean soil with a ‘break’, saved his rival’s break option and kept the lead until he took the lead (6-4). Munar once again saved a compromised serve at the start of the second set and was lethal with his ‘break’ option to take the lead until victory.

Munar, who stands as the only Spanish representative in the Chilean capital, will measure himself in the quarter finals with the Italian Marco Cecchinato or the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro. Earlier, Carballés was unable to score a second triumph in Chile this week against Hanfmann.

The canary had the first set in his hand and came to serve to close it, but conceded a ‘break’ and ended up losing the set in sudden death. The Spaniard accused the blow in a second set without hitting the rest and almost placid for the German.
