Moutet is disqualified on a day of surprises in Adelaide

Corentin Moutet left us the first big eccentric image of the tennis season in 2022 during his match against Laslo Djere at the ATP 250 in Adelaide. The young French tennis player was disqualified when the match marched with equal to one set each after Moutet won the first 6-4 while Djere took the second 7-5.

At the end of the second set Moutet angrily protested to the chair umpire about one of the decisions he made during the match to the point of saying “Fuck you!”, which meant his automatic disqualification and the victory of Djere.

The Serbian will now face Croatian Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals, who got rid of Brazilian Thiago Monteiro 6-4, 7-6 (3). The Swiss Mikael Ymer also passed to the quarterfinals, who defeated the South Korean Soonwoo Kwon 6-3, 6-2.

Sabalenka and Sakkari, surprised

The day in Adelaide left us, in addition to Moutet’s anger, the surprising defeats of Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari, second and third favorite to the title respectively.

Sabalenka was overwhelmed by the Slovenian Kaja Juvan, who after taking the first set in the tie-break 7-6 (6), he had no rival in the second set to win 6-1. For his part Maria Sakkari also could not beat the American Shelby Rogers, who won 7-6 (5), 2-6 and 6-4.

Who did not give the option to surprise was the Australian Ashleigh Barty. The world number one had to sweat and come back to win a combative Coco Gauff 4-6, 7-5 and 6-1 to access the quarterfinals. In this round there will also be the Kazakh Elena Rybakina, who easily beat the Czech Marie Bouzkova 6-3, 6-4.
