BARCELONA, 5 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Italian cyclist Matteo Moschetti (Trek-Segafredo) won this Saturday in the fourth stage of the 73rd Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, disputed between Orihuela and Torrevieja over 193.1 kilometers, in a clean sprint in which he beat the local Manuel Peñalver (Burgos-BH), without changes in the general classification led by Aleksandr Vlasov (BORA-hansgrohe).
Moschetti won a long sprint, in a straight line that favored a clean finish, against a Peñalver who was running in front of his neighbors from Torrevieja and who visibly regretted not having been able to win in his locality.
Peñalver was second entering next to the fences just behind the Italian, who opens his record in 2022 with his sixth professional victory. Third was the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert), fourth the Italian Elia Viviani (INEOS Grenadiers) and fifth the Dutchman Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl), this time very closed and far from his possible second victory.
It was a quiet day, with a breakaway neutralized by the large group 20 kilometers from the finish line despite the final resistance of Manuele Boaro (Astana). That yes, the Spaniards of the INEOS Grenadiers Omar Fraile and Carlos Rodríguez, third in the general, went to the ground and Fraile, national champion, took strong scratches.
This Sunday ends this edition of the Valencia round with a fifth and final stage between Paterna and Valencia, over 92 kilometers. A day designed for another sprint and in which, except for surprise, the Russian Vlasov will be proclaimed final champion, who has a margin of 32 seconds over Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) and 36 over Carlos Rodríguez.
