More than four thousand athletes will participate in the first Water Games, which will host 18 official Spanish Championships in the Region of Murcia from September 22 to October 2.
The sport with the largest number of participants will be triathlon, which will have approximately 1,800 athletes, while canoeing and rowing will have more than 600 athletes each. Swimming will have 300 participants, surfing and fishing will attract around 200 athletes each, sailing and underwater activities at 150, power boating at 120 and water skiing at 50.
A total of 18 official Spanish Championships will be held: open water (swimming), sprint triathlon (triathlon), Catamaran class (sailing), K4 and C4 crossing (canoeing), Radio control (sailing), Wakeboard (water skiing), Flyski (motor boating). ), Dragon Boat (canoeing), Rallyjet, Offshore and Circuit (motorboating), Long Distance SUP (surfing), sea rowing (rowing), Sea Coast Duo (fishing and casting), Kayak Fishing (fishing and casting), SUP Speed (surfing) and Nafosub and Cevisub (underwater activities).
The Water Games are organized by the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP) and 10 Spanish sports federations: swimming, sailing, canoeing, surfing, triathlon, power boating, water skiing, fishing and casting, underwater activities and rowing. Cartagena, Santiago de la Ribera, Cabo de Palos, La Manga, Lo Pagán and Los Alcázares will host the competition between September 22 and October 2.
The president of ADESP, José Hidalgo, explained that the participation of athletes will be “massive.” “We expect more than ten thousand people to come to the Region of Murcia during those days to witness these first Water Games in situ,” he assured.
