Molins de Rei will host the arrival of a stage of the Volta for the first time in its history

The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya has confirmed this Tuesday the arrival of the race to Molins de Rei in the 102nd edition of the competition, so it will be the first time that the population of Baix Llobregat has done so, which had previously hosted only one start in the year 2003.

Thus, 20 years later, the Volta will return to Molins de Rei. In its day it hosted the start of an individual time trial of 13.1 kilometers with the end in Vallvidrera (Barcelona), which José Antonio Pecharromán won ahead of Roberto Heras and the Colombian Santiago Botero.

On this occasion, the Catalan town will star in the next edition of the arrival of an online stage in its population, in a long-awaited finale. In fact, in recent years Molins de Rei has hosted several intermediate sprints of the competition, gathering a prominent presence of the public.

“It is an opportunity to promote the population in all its dimensions and at the same time make the citizens enjoy this great event”, explained the mayor of Molins de Rei, Xavi Paz.

For his part, the president of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, Rubèn Peris, also highlighted the involvement of the city. “Molins de Rei will welcome us with open arms and we are very excited that for the first time in the long history of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya a race finish can be celebrated,” he concluded.

The 102nd edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will be held from March 20 to 26, 2023, and the 18 best teams in the world, the UCI WorldTeams, and 7 invited teams from the UCI ProTeams category will participate.
