Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric acknowledged that they did not play a good game this Sunday in the heavy defeat (2-5) against FC Barcelona in the Super Cup final, while seeking consolation in a certain lack of category in the trophy in comparison with the League and the Champions.
“It’s a tough defeat. We have to be together, be a team and get out of this, like we did after the league defeat against them. Then we reacted and I hope we’re going to react after this tough defeat, because we didn’t think we’d lose like that,” he told the media after the meeting in Jeddah.
Furthermore, the Croatian pointed out that Madrid cannot win all the finals. “It’s good that the Cup match is coming soon and we don’t have much time to regret it. If we have to choose a final to lose, we’d rather lose this one,” he said.
“In football there are defeats and victories, you can’t always win. It’s never nice to lose against your rival, but this is football. If we have to lose a cup, we prefer to lose this one, we prefer to lose the Super Cup. We must continue. We must congratulate to Barcelona, they have played a better game. We have to work and correct what we have done wrong and continue,” he added.
On the other hand, Modric hoped to resume the good line they brought to the Clásico ahead of the important stretch of the season. “This is football, we feel for our fans and for us, we have to continue and be united. There is a lot of season left and we want to give a lot of joy to our fans. We have to continue in our line because we had a good dynamic in the League,” he concluded.
