Mischa Zverev will be the captain of the German United Cup team

The older brother of tennis player Alexander Zverev, Mischa, will be in charge of the German tennis team that will participate in the new United Cup at the end of the year in Australia, the German Tennis Federation announced on Saturday.

The new mixed tournament organized by the ATP and the WTA will be held from December 29 to January 8. According to information from dpa, the captain of the German Davis Cup team, Michael Kohlmann, will not be present at the competition.

Mischa Zverev had been on the coaches’ bench in February 2021 at the now-suppressed ATP Cup, a men’s tennis national team competition.

The German team in Australia will be led by Olympic champion Alexander Zverev. Oscar Otte, Daniel Altmaier and doubles player Fabian Fallert will also join the men’s side, while Jule Niemeier, Laura Siegemund, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Julia Lohoff will be the women’s representatives.

Germany will face the United States and the Czech Republic in Group C. There will be two women’s singles, two men’s and one mixed. The tournament distributes 15 million euros in prizes and points for the world ranking.

In addition to Sydney, where the final phase will be held, the United Cup will also be held in the Australian towns of Brisbane and Perth. The tournament serves as preparation for the Australian Open, ‘Grand Slam’ which begins on January 16, 2023.
