PSG will have to face a significant amount of money in case they want to fire Mauricio Pochettino in June. After having disbursed €22 million in 2016 to fire Laurent Blanc and after having paid Tuchel €8 million in 2020 for the settlement, the next one who could leave for a considerable sum is the Argentine coach, who is on the wire after being eliminated from the knockout stages of the Champions League and his work is not meeting the expectations of a project born by and to achieve the highest continental competition.
Currently, Pochettino is the highest paid manager in Ligue 1 by a wide margin. The santafesino receives 1.1 million € gross per month, placing only behind Simeone (3M monthly), Guardiola (1.89), Klopp, Conte (1.49) or Allegri (1.17) among the highest paid coaches in European football. Separating from Pochettino would be a grievance for PSG, since the Parisian group is with the noose to the neck during the current exercise after having accumulated a deficit of 200 million €.
According to information from L’Équipe, if PSG wants to release its current technical staff, it will have to pay €20 million. ANDhe dismissal of Pochettino would not cost less than €15 million and to this we must add Jesús Perez, his assistant coach, who earns €80,000 a month; Miguel D’Agostino, whose salary is €50,000 and Toni Jiménez, goalkeeping coach, or Sebastiano Pochettino, his son, who earn €20,000 a month.
A little less than a year ago, PSG announced the renewal of Pochettino until 2023 to calm the waters amid a wave of rumors that placed the former Tottenham manager out of Paris. That may end up costing the club dearly, since, except for a last-minute surprise, the Argentine will not continue on the bench from next season.
