Miguel Méndez: “We had a bad game, we have to play our tricks better”

Leo Rodríguez: “We arrived with the truth of what can happen in a championship”

MADRID, 10 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The women’s national basketball coach, Miguel Méndez, regretted Spain’s “bad game” this Saturday against Hungary, in the last trial for the Eurobasket that begins in five days against Latvia, without knowing how to “play better” his basketball.

“In attack we have had problems throughout the game. We have not generated what we had to generate and then we have suffered a lot, the interior defense and in the stupid losses. We have had a bad game,” he said in statements provided by the Spanish Federation of Basketball (FEB), collected by Europa Press.

The Galician coach confessed that his team did not know how to calm down to redirect the match from their weapons. “Speaking of basketball, we have to play our tricks much better. It’s a game played without energy, we went in jerks,” he said, after conceding his first defeat as coach (15-1).

“We have to think that we can be the team that we have been during these two weeks, but that in games like these that get complicated, we have to go back to our basics, reinforce the ideas of the game that we do well and try to play more as a team” he added, already thinking about the match against Latvia on Thursday.

In addition, Leo Rodríguez, the best in Spain with 16 points, explained that what happened is what can happen if they are not one hundred percent. “If one day we are not at 100% we can lose. Better that it happen to us today and not later. We have had a lot of turnovers, we have missed easy baskets and we have let them play in their own way and at their pace. That hurt us a lot and they they began to gain confidence, and at the beginning of the third quarter he penalized us. We arrived with the truth of what can happen in a championship”, he commented.
