Míchel: “We had worked on closed corners and we didn’t do it well on the most important play”

MADRID, 14 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Girona coach, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, ‘Míchel’, acknowledged that they suffered “a tough defeat” this Monday against a team “in a great moment of form” like Atlético de Madrid, especially because of the way in which the Definitive 0-1, in a play that they had specifically worked on.

“It’s a tough defeat against an opponent who was in great shape. We’ve done a lot of things well, but it’s true that Atlético has had more punch and defended well. I’m very happy with the pressure and with the attitude, but in the ‘three’ zone it has been difficult for us to generate many important situations and they have a lot of potential to hurt you in any way”, said Míchel at a press conference after the game.

In this sense, he confessed to being “bad” for how the goal came. “We had worked on closed corners in the morning and how to defend them, and we didn’t do well on the most important play. We missed a point that I don’t know if it was deserved, but the team did a great job. We must forget this defeat and think about what remains,” he warned.

“The first 15 minutes have been very good and from then on there has been a lot of equality. In the second part we had two or three clear ones, just like them, and in the end it was possible to opt for either side and in a strategy they have taken that away from us. point that I think was very good for us to be able to continue adding”, added the man from Madrid.

The coach of the Catalan team referred to the debate on the 1-0 victories and recalled that “winning in any way is very difficult and very complicated”. “The result is what commands and we all look for it in different ways. What I am looking for is performance, which is what strengthens me and what makes me reach the result we are looking for,” he explained.

Finally, Míchel commented on the situation of Borja García, Oriol Romeu and Aleix García, who ended up with physical problems. “We don’t know about Borja if it was due to a blow, but his knee was not feeling well and with Aleix and Oriol we have to see the evolution throughout the week. Oriol’s seems less important because he has not noticed any situation of major injury,” he explained.
