Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad have reported this Wednesday that Martín Merquelanz has undergone arthroscopy in his left knee. The winger, who was injured during the match against Levante held on September 11, was intervened by Dr. Mikel Sánchez. The medical report published by both clubs added that, “In the absence of complications, he will be discharged on Thursday.”
The Irundarra had started the season as a substitute at Pizjuán, but he soon made a place in eleven. There he was present during the second, the third and the fourth day. Until the alarms went off at the Ciutat de València, when the player fell to the pitch in pain and had to be substituted after 14 minutes. Already at that time it was feared that the crusader had been broken – It already happened to him in both knees with the Real one -, but the first tests ruled out a serious injury.
Of course, days passed and the exact extent of his ailment did not transcend. Iraola explained why and offered some more information. “There is no clear diagnosis. The knee is swollen, they continue to test it and we will see how it evolves. He has the ligaments well and the most serious injury has been ruled out, but for now we cannot count on him, “he said just a few days ago.
Merquelanz landed in Vallecas last summer, on loan from the txuri-urdin club and without a purchase option, to return to the orders of Iraola. The coach had previously directed at Mirandés (19-20), where the winger signed big numbers: 43 games, 17 goals, 13 assists and 3,316 minutes between Segunda and a Copa del Rey in which they reached the semifinals, leaving Primeras like Celta, Sevilla and Villarreal by the wayside.
