Mehdi Nafti, new coach of Leganés

The French-Tunisian Mehdi Nafti has been appointed this Sunday the new coach of CD Leganés, after the cucumber club dismissed Asier Garitano on Saturday after the defeat against Almería (1-0).

“CD Leganés and Mehdi Nafti reached an agreement this Sunday for the French-Tunisian coach to join the cucumber team. The coach, who has developed a large part of his career as a player and coach in our country, will already direct the session of this Sunday and will be released on the bench on Tuesday against FC Cartagena “, announced the Madrid entity.

The 42-year-old from Toulouse has developed his career as a coach in Spain, sitting in front of the benches of Marbella, Mérida, CD Badajoz and CD Lugo, the last club he managed just last season. Along with him, Pepe Bermúdez joined the club as assistant coach, Pedro Abraham Capella as physical trainer and Diego Caneda as goalkeeping coach.

As a player, Nafti was proclaimed champion of Africa with Tunisia in 2004 and played the World Cup in Germany in 2006. He played nearly 400 games as a professional, including Toulouse FC, Racing Santander, Birmingham City, Aris de Thessaloniki, Real Valladolid, Real Murcia and Cádiz.

This Saturday, Asier Garitano, the second coach with the most games in the history of Leganés, ended his second stage in the cucumber team, which he promoted to Second in 2014 and First in 2016. After that, Bergara’s Real Sociedad and Alavés and returned to Leganés less than a year ago. Last season he played the promotion playoff but did not pass the first round, and this season leaves the team before the last with 10 points, two from the salvation zone.
