Medvedev makes his debut on land with Rome, fifth title of the year

MADRID, 21 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev won the Rome tournament, fifth Masters 1,000 of the season, by beating (7-5, 7-5) this Sunday the Danish Holger Rune, his first title on the brick dust surface in the anteroom Roland Garros.

The Russian won his fifth title of the season, in a bursting revival to return strongly to the best in the ranking. The 20-time ATP champion, all different tournaments, rises with his sixth Masters 1,000 to number two in the world before Paris.

Medvedev optimized his options to the maximum in the first set, since it was with the ‘break’ ball that he had that he scored the 7-5. Rune found the break at the beginning of the second set, much more even and in an exchange of blows until the last games. There, the Russian scored four in a row to make another 7-5.
