Medina Cantalejo: “It is a historic moment”

MADRID, 19 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), Luis Medina Cantalejo, has described as “good news” the fact that the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga have agreed to make public the communication between the field referee and the referee. VAR in the matches of the first two categories of Spanish football, something that he defines as “a historic moment.”

“I think it is good news, we are going to start with this step. It is an important and historic moment to be able to make something public in what this communication between the field referee and the VAR referee is, and what protocols are followed” , highlighted Medina Cantalejo in an interview with the official media of the RFEF.

In this sense, he believes that “steps forward” are being taken in the transparency of sport. “One of them is to publicly display the recordings of the moment of the review on the monitor, in each part. One day will have five, another will have two… It will be a good sign the fewer there are. All people will be able to see what is a conversation between the on-field referee and the VAR,” he said.
