Mediaset Spain ‘reconciles’ with the producer of Entrevías and commissions a new series

Telecinco will broadcast a project signed by Aitor Gabilondo, who had not received new orders from Alessandro Salem. Mediaset España is once again working with the audiovisual giant’s favourite fiction producer during Paolo Vasile’s time, Aitor Gabilondo. The Basque showrunner has signed the third and final season of Interviews, which will be seen this season, and this summer he was commissioned to make a new series for the channel.

This new project, which Informalia has given us a sneak preview of, will be the first that the current CEO of Mediaset España and Vasile’s successor has commissioned from the production company Alea Media, 55% owned by Gabilondo and 45% by the company owned by the Berlusconi family. The failure of the last commissions that Paolo Vasile made to the showrunner Aitor Gabilondo (the daily serial Vengeance is mine and the controversy Scandal, story of an obsession), the modest budgets that Mediaset España manages compared to international platforms, and Salem’s commitment to opening the doors to other producers had ‘cooled’ the relationship between the Telecinco editor and Alea Media.

Extraordinary moment for Alea Media

The lack of new commissions from Mediaset Spain has not affected Alea Media, which this September will be one of the stars of the Vitoria FesTVal with the fourth batch of Interviews and the San Sebastian Festival with the premiere of Me, addictfrom Disney+. Gabilondo also has two other projects in the works for Netflix, whose series has made it into the top 100 worldwide views. The silenceThe North American platform has the drama in its portfolio Salvadorwhich will be about a courageous father who fights to get his daughter out of far-right football groups, and the rural comedy Wild animalThe first one stars Luis Tosar while the poster of the second one, filmed in Galicia, opens it Luis Zahera. The production company Alea Media had a turnover of more than 9.3 million euros in 2022, which is almost 30% more than in 2021 and almost triples the sales of the pandemic-hit 2020 (a year in which they earned 3.6 million euros). The factory controlled by Aitor Gabilondo, according to the data stored in the Commercial Registry, obtained profits of 623,000 euros in 2022 (which was almost double the profits of the previous year).

7 years with Alea Media

The professional love affair between Paolo Vasile and Aitor Gabilondo started in 2014. That year Telecinco triumphed with The Princeproduced by the historic César Benítez and driven by the ideas of the then ex-scriptwriter of Journalists o The CommissionerIn 2017 Mediaset España sponsored Alea Media, which has achieved great hits on Telecinco (especially Living without permission y Interviews), achieved great reviews and many awards with Patria (which served as the flagship of HBO Spain) and has made a name for itself on Prime Video (Mothers), Disney+ (Kisses for everyone y Me, addict) and, especially, Netflix. The relationship with the latter has not always been a haven of peace, since in 2020 they cancelled a series that they had commissioned about the jihadism, The Suitcasewhich was going to star the popular Dani Rovira.
