BERLIN, 28 Dec. (STATS Perform / dpa / EP) –
PSG striker Kylian Mbappé and Bayern Munich player Robert Lewandowski expressed concern about the lack of rest that the players will have if the FIFA project for which the World Cup would be organized every two years is confirmed.
Both the French and the Polish are not in favor of change. “We like to play, but it is too much. If people want to see quality, we have to take a break,” said Mbappe in Dubai, where he was named male player of the year at the Globe Soccer Awards.
“Playing the World Cup every two years would make this competition ‘normal’ and that should not be the case. The World Cup, the League of Nations … We love to play, but it is too much,” he insisted.
For his part, Lewandowski said that the calendar is already congested, even without the additional burden that this World Cup project would imply every two years. “We have many games during the year, with very dense weeks. If you want to give the fans something different, you need a break,” he said at the same event.
“We have to look to the future, if we want to play a World Cup every two years, the level will go down. It is impossible for the body and mind to perform at the same level,” Lewandowski said.
