Max Verstappen: “When we were under pressure and went through difficult times, the team stayed together”

“We deserved something more in the Constructors’ World Championship,” said the brand new four-time drivers’ champion in F1.

MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing), brand new four-time Formula 1 world champion, praised his team this Friday for having remained “united” in situations “under pressure” and going through “difficult moments” during “a season that was a bit difficult from the middle”, stalked by the Englishman Lando Norris (McLaren).

“It’s been a bit of a difficult season from the middle, but even when we were under pressure and went through difficult moments, I think the team stayed together. We haven’t panicked, which could easily happen in that kind of situation. So that in the end… yes, I am very proud of the entire team,” declared Verstappen during a gala of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

“It is clear that we are not here as constructors’ champions, but in a way I think we deserved something more in that championship. I did everything I could and we know well what we have to work on in every way for next year. “I’m very excited about that too because it looks like it’s going to be a real fight between many teams,” said the Dutchman with his new F1 champion trophy.

“I think this season has had a lot of ups and downs. We had a great start to the year and everything seemed to be going well. I think, especially from the outside, as a team we always understand our limitations and what we want to work on. And also the competition did a great job , improved his cars a lot and made things much more difficult for us, especially in the Constructors’ World Championship,” ‘Mad Max’ highlighted about his rivals.

On the other hand, during the award ceremony in Kigali (Rwanda), Verstappen reflected on seeing himself among the drivers with the most F1 world titles: “Of course, it’s something that when you’re a child, or when you grow up, well, you don’t. You think. You hear the names — Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, etc. — and you think ‘wow, that’s really impressive and I hope one day I can be on the podium.'”

“But sometimes you get lucky in life and you’re in the right place at the right time. And of course, as a driver, you have to take advantage of that. Luckily, I’ve been able to do that at the same time. But yeah, it’s amazing, four titles is definitely incredible. Of course, I also hope that this does not stop here, I hope that we can be successful for a longer period of time,” he predicted.

“As you could see this year, the competition is very close. On the other hand, in 2026 many things will change and perhaps other teams will be competitive again. But for now, I think it is very important to enjoy the moment and be proud of what we have achieved also as a team, and we will try again next year,” concluded Verstappen on stage at the FIA gala.
