The international referee Juan Martínez Munuera will be in charge of whistling this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the Camp Nou the first Clásico of the season. The Arbitration Commission, made up of Velasco Carballo and López Nieto, have chosen the Valencian. From the VAR he will be assisted by Sánchez Martínez, chosen last season as the best Spanish referee.
The Valencian will whistle a Classic for the first time. Of course, he has great experience whistling both teams. He has directed the whites up to 24 times, with a favorable balance of 15 victories, five draws and four losses. Regarding Barcelona, he whistled them 21 times and fifteen times they took the victory, drawing and losing three times each.
Martínez Munuera this season has only been corrected by the VAR on one occasion. In Getafe-Betis, in which his lineman annulled Ángel's goal for a non-existent offside. Last season it was rectified up to eleven times, the second most corrected only behind Estrada Fernández. Martínez Munuera is an international referee. He has been appointed for several relevant matches but mainly for VAR tasks, where his choice to be in the VOR in the final of the Club World Cup last year stands out.
Instead, Sánchez Martínez, who was recently chosen as the best Spanish referee last season, will be in the VAR. In his video referee work he has been recognized by FIFA and UEFA in recent years. He was chosen for the VAR of the final of the Women's World Cup, helping Del Cerro Grande, and as the main VOR in the last final of the Women's Champions League.
Sánchez Martínez has only corrected a teammate this season. It was at Villarreal-Alavés, where he recommended and finally a penalty from Lejeune on Mario was called. He is a non-interventionist referee, last season he was among those who entered the least from the VOR, doing so only five times. In 18-19, the first season in which it was used, he only did it four times. He mainly calls for subjective plays in which the referee must go to the monitor.
