Valencian tennis players Pedro Martínez and Bernabé Zapata asserted their status as favorites on Wednesday and they managed to pass with authority to the third round of the Alicante Challenger tournament, which is being held this week at the Juan Carlos Ferrero-Equelite Tennis Academy in Villena. Martínez-Portero, seed number 1, beat Guillermo García López by a conclusive 6-4 and 6-0, while Bernabé Zapata got rid of one of the great surprises of the tournament, the guest Pol Martin Tiffon, by 6-3 and 7-5.

Zapata, for his part, will face Aleksandar Vukic, who defeated Iñigo Cervantes by a double 6-1. Both Spaniards will face international rivals who are showing a great level. In doubles, veteran Tommy Robredo reached the second round pairing up with Canadian Steven Diez after defeating Poles Karol Drzewiecki and Szymon Walkow 7-6 (5) 5-7 and 10-7.
