Marta Ortega turns 40 with success: the boss of Zara keeps Inditex at the heights after becoming a mother for the third time

After becoming a mother for the third time last December, the daughter of Amancio Ortega can boast of the indisputable success of Inditex. He became president of the textile giant in the spring of 2022 and, faced with the rejection of those who did not trust his management after the departure of Pablo Isla of the Board of Directors, has managed to maintain the group with excellent results: it reaches historical highs on the stock market and is already the ninth largest firm in Europe.

Last November, the firm reached a market capitalization of 113.93 billion euros and entered the ranking of the ten largest companies in EuroStoxx, the main reference on the Old Continent. And all this when the businesswoman was preparing to be the mother of her third child, Manuel, the second in common with her husband, Carlos Toretta, with whom she welcomed little Matilda in 2020 – the businesswoman's first child, Amancio, was born 10 years ago, the result of her marriage to the jockey Sergio Álvarez Moya.

Since she took charge of Inditex, the Galician woman combines her discreet family life with the work of maintaining the company she inherited from her father, with whom she maintains a very close relationship, at the top. With pride and serenity, Marta has put challenges on the table that she has more than fulfilled: she has modernized the multinational brands -Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho and Zara Home- and has promoted, for example, the second-hand clothing buying and selling platform Pre-Owned, taking into account that the clothes vintage It already accounts for 5% of the world's textile business. Among his achievements is also the opening of macro stores, the so-called Flagship stores. One of them is the Zara store located in Madrid's Edificio España.

However, the board has also achieved great success in its commitment to the sale onlinesustainability and for Start up like Circ, dedicated to recycling fashion from the fibers that a garment contains; and has launched Join Life, an initiative that pursues the use of the most sustainable cellulosic fibers.

The businesswoman started as another saleswoman at the Zara store located on Oxford Street after graduating in Business Studies from the European Business School at the University of the British capital. She then ended up at Arteixo, where she already got to work with the management and development of fashion and directed the launch of some collections such as Studio or SRPLS. For 15 years he worked in various departments of the company, his role being key in Bershka and Zara Woman.

Marta lives with her husband, to whom she has been happily married for five years, in A Coruña, where she grew up and studied at the Santa María del Mar School. She completed her high school education in Switzerland, before receiving the services of Brigitte, the British au pair who gave her her passion for horse riding. She is the creator of the MOP foundation, dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of culture, art and literature from A Coruña.
