Marta Cardona says goodbye to Real Madrid: “I’m leaving with my head held high”

MADRID, 7 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Zaragoza winger Marta Cardona announced this Tuesday that she will not continue at Real Madrid next season, after completing two seasons with the white entity, the last one very hampered by injuries, although she has confessed that she is leaving “with her head held high”, despite the fact that “it has not been the year I expected”, as the footballer has communicated on social networks.

“I would have liked to say goodbye on the field, with all of you. It has been a two-year stage, where the first year was exciting in every way; both on a sporting and personal level”, began the message Cardona, who in his first year as madridista enjoyed a differential role with 14 goals in 34 games.

However, Cardona’s second season at Real Madrid has been marked by injuries, which have barely allowed him to enjoy just over 350 minutes on the pitch, spread over nine games, in which he scored just one goal.

“This year I have had to experience the hardest part of football and sport in general. Injuries have kept me away from the pitch, where I am happy; it has not been the year I expected and what you expected of me, but I leave with my head held high knowing that I did everything I had in my hands to recover and play again,” he said.

The 27-year-old soccer player also had words of thanks in the message posted on her social media profiles. “Thank the club and the board for trusting me in this project that started from scratch, as well as my teammates and coaching staff from both years. The most important thing is that I have met great people that I will take with me forever,” she said.

“And, to you fans, thank you for making me feel so loved since I arrived, especially this year where I have needed it most. I wish you good luck,” settled the text shared by the Zaragoza.

Cardona, who has not played since February 23, will have the opportunity to be in the European Championship in England, which begins in just a month, since the coach, Jorge Vilda, included her in the pre-list of 28 players, assuring that she has been training for weeks “one hundred percent”.
