Olympique Marseille took a step back in their bid for second place in Ligue 1 after falling at the Velodrome stadium to newly promoted Clermont (0-2), in the match that closed matchday 25.
Jorge Sampaoli’s team is now left with only one rental point in second place threatened by Nice who beat Angers.
Marseille, who had won two in a row, did not know how to react to Clermont’s lead after a quarter of an hour with the goal signed by the Guinean Mohamed Bayo from Akim Zedadka’s pass.
The local team was not successful despite the fact that they accentuated their dominance over Pascal Gastien’s team, who sentenced the clash six minutes from the end, in a corner taken by Jason Berthomier that headed into the net, out of reach of the Spanish goalkeeper Pau López , Gabonese Jim Allevinah.
The win moves Clermont six points out of the relegation zone. Marseille has left second place up in the air.
