MADRID, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Real Madrid basketball confirmed this Thursday an agreement with Croatian forward Mario Hezonja, who arrives from Russian UNICS Kazan and has signed for two seasons, until June 30, 2024.
The player from Dubrovnik, 27 years old and 2.06 meters tall, thus returns to Spanish basketball since he was in the ranks of FC Barcelona between 2012 and 2015. From there he made the jump to the NBA to play with New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic and later return to Europe.
Hezonja was signed by the Greek Panathinaikos in the 2020-2021 campaign and in the following he played for UNICS, where he was one of their most outstanding players in the Euroleague until the elimination of the Russian teams due to the invasion of Ukraine. In 25 games in the continental competition, he averaged 14.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals.
The Croatian becomes the third signing of the current champion of the Endesa League for the 2022-2023 season after those of the Spanish guard Sergio Rodríguez and the Bosnian forward Dzanan Musa, who have signed after leaving the Italian Olimpia and the Breogán River, respectively.
