María Vicente, with a new record, and Asier Martínez, world leaders of the year

Both make great comebacks in pentathlon and 60 meter hurdles

MADRID, 28 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish athlete María Vicente broke her own Spanish pentathlon record at the combined X-Athletics in Aubiere (France), while the Spanish athlete Asier Martínez returned to the international spotlight with a first place at Meeting de L'Eure.

Vicente returned to the combined events with a personal best and, therefore, a new record for Spain, going to 4,728 points, leaving far behind the 4,528 he had in 2022. His marks for the weekend in Aubiere were 8.24 in the 60 meter hurdles ; 8.24 in height; 13.84 by weight; 6.65 in length and 2:15.50 in the 800 meters.

The Spanish record holder also became the world leader of the year, the same as Martínez on French soil as well. The Navarrese, European champion and bronze medalist at the 2022 World Cup in the 110 meter hurdles, returned from injury in a big way.

Martínez won the test with a personal best (7.49) and was just one hundredth behind the Spanish record of Quique Llopis and Orlando Ortega. The Navarrese hurdler became the world leader of the year after practically a blank season.
