MADRID, 1 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Athletic Club coach, Marcelino García Toral, valued his team’s “extraordinary match” this Saturday to beat Atlético de Madrid (2-0) and continue in “the fight for Europe” in LaLiga Santander, with a “very good” after 34 days.
“They played an extraordinary game. Our start was very good, with criteria, intensity, precision, speed, with some luck too. Atlético was able to draw. Those little details favored us but I think we deserved to win. I feel proud”, he said at a press conference after the victory.
The Basque coach explained that the details determine the matches, that the rival also plays, and that more cannot be asked of his team. “We had four errors, four days that we were not up to the task, four of 34, the background is very good and that allows us to be there in the fight for Europe, to see if we are capable of getting the next game forward”, he pointed out.
“The important thing is the next game and to score a lot of points, we’ll see what it gives us. This team is the one that runs the most in the League and plays,” he added. Marcelino explained that the changes were due to wear and tear but not due to injury, like those of Iñaki and Nico Williams, while he praised the oldest of the brothers.
“Iñaki is a very important player, we’ve known that since the start of the season. He hasn’t had much luck in front of goal, but the danger he creates is undermining the rival, helping us to progress and we know that we shouldn’t demand that he be a scorer. They don’t have any problem, they have a very big beating on them, how could it be otherwise to beat Atlético de Madrid”, he finished.
