Mapi León renews with Barça until 2026

Barça Women's defender Mapi León renewed her contract with the Barça team this Thursday until 2026, two seasons longer than what she had signed, an agreement announced after the 7-0 win over Rosengard in the Champions League.

“María León will continue to be a culer until June 30, 2026. The club and the 28-year-old player have reached an agreement to renew the left-footed center back for another two seasons. Mapi ended her contractual relationship on June 30, 2026. 2024 and, with the renewal, he will reach nine seasons as a Barça player,” the Catalan team announced on its official website.

León, out due to a knee injury for which he underwent surgery last week, signed his renewal together with the club president, Joan Laporta, and the director responsible for women's football, Xavier Puig. The Aragonese has won 16 titles at Barça since 2017: 2 Champions Leagues, 4 Leagues, 4 Queen's Cups, 3 Spanish Super Cups and 3 Catalunya Cups, in more than 230 culé games.

After the victory against Rosengard, with which Barça sealed their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Mapi León herself broke the news at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. “I wanted to give you two pieces of news in person. The injury has made me think about many things and I don't continue, I'll leave it. But since Jonatan Girçaldez is leaving us at the end of the season, I thought that I am the new coach,” she said jokingly.
