Malaga will vibrate again with the best tennis in the world in the Davis Cup. This Thursday the ITF has confirmed the Andalusian city as one of the four venues that will host the matches of the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals from September 14 to 18. Malaga will be the venue along with Bologna, Glasgow and Hamburg and will almost certainly host Spain’s first matches in the tournament.
The organizers of the Davis Cup have also confirmed the last team qualified for the Finals tafter Russia’s disqualification and Serbia’s invitation becoming vacant as the Balkan team occupied the place of the Russians. That invitation will go to Canada, a finalist in the 2019 edition, and that completes the list of 16 participating countries in the group stage.
In addition, the ITF has announced that the draw for the groups will be held on March 31 with new features in the format. These group stage matches will be held from September 14 to 18, after reaching an agreement with the players to reduce the pressure of their calendar and each city will host the same group and the four teams in it.
The top two finishers in each group will advance to the final knockout phase of the Davis Cup Finals, which will take place from November 23 to 27 in a city yet to be determined. and that is the last great unknown to be revealed in the main tennis competition by country.
