Madrid Urban Sports lands again in Madrid Río and Matadero in June

After the success of 2021 with more than 48,000 spectators, the best urban sport returns to celebrate the World Capital of Sport

Madrid will once again be the international epicenter of urban sports at an international level in the second edition of Madrid Urban Sports, which will host Madrid Río and Matadero from June 10 to 12 to celebrate the city’s designation as World Sports Capital in 2022 .

More than 48,000 people enjoyed the best international urban sports competitions in the first edition, with the presence of Olympic athletes and accompanied by great icons of each of the sports disciplines.

The people of Madrid will be able to see athletes such as Daniel Dhers, silver medalist in Tokyo 2020 and fourth place in the last edition, or Ángelo Caro, skate champion in 2021 in Madrid and Olympic skateboarding finalist. The Peruvian talent will return to Madrid Río-matadero to defend his gold medal.

Other athletes such as Virginia Fortes, Nick Bruce, Lucas Di Meglio or Jamie Hull will be the big names to follow in this second edition of Madrid Urban Sports.

The Delegate Councilor for Sports of the Madrid City Council, Sofía Miranda, highlighted the consistory’s commitment “to bringing sports activity closer to the youngest through new urban currents. “Having Olympic role models from different disciplines is one of the best examples to encourage young people in the capital to pursue their dreams,” he added.

Skateboarding will be the standard bearer of an event full of competitions at the highest level. The quintessential urban sport will be accompanied by a wide range of modalities made up of BMX, Scooter and Breakdance, which will be the disciplines that will be represented at Madrid Río-Matadero.

Women’s sport will also have wide representation in 2022. The people of Madrid will be able to vibrate with the best women’s BMX, Skateboard and Breaking competitions.

The stages will be one of the main attractions of Madrid Urban Sports. Central Park, with ramps over four meters high, will host the BMX and scooter competitions. The street plaza, for its part, will host the street skateboard and scooter competitions.

The 3×3 basketball also confirms its return to Matadero, where great talents of this type of basketball will give their best to be crowned champions.

The director of Madrid Urban Sports, Víctor Casanovas, said: “We are counting down to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and Madrid Urban Sports has become a must-attend event for the best athletes in urban sports.”

Urban sports and urban culture are two concepts that go hand in hand and one of the keys to Madrid Urban Sports was the wide range of sports, art and music that it offered to all attendees in 2021.

Freestyle battles, concerts by artists from Madrid’s urban scene and the best urban art will once again be the great attractions that will complement the sports competitions.

The MUS is once again a great commitment of the capital to become the epicenter of sport and urban culture and has the support of the Madrid City Council and the Business Forum to help position the city as a benchmark for world sport as the World Capital of Sport of 2022.
